    Flexibility and Mobility

    The International Sports Science Association states that flexibility and mobility are essential to healthy movement. However, they are not synonymous.

    Flexibility refers to the ability of tendons, muscles, and ligaments to stretch, while mobility refers to the body’s ability to move finished a full range of motion at joints.

    According to the U.S. Subdivision of Health and Human Services (HHS) Physical Activity Guidelines, there are no specific recommendations for the number of minutes to do exercises that improve flexibility or mobility (such as stretching), and their health benefits are unknown due to a lack of research. However, the guidelines note that flexibility exercises are essential for maintaining physical fitness.
